For almost every professional dieter, the frustration and failure in trying to lose weight usually comes down to one big mistake. The mistake we all make is in thinking that our weight problems are a diet issue when in fact, our diet it not even close to being the most important factor that keeps us fat. It is doubtful that there is an overweight person alive today that does not know full well that the answer to losing weight is basically eating less, eating better, and exercising. It's simple, really. The problem is that as overweight people, we don't want to deal with the real issue at fault..., our heads. The problem isn't that we don't what to do or what to eat to lose weight, the problem is that we can't get ourselves to stick with anything long enough to get the job done. You see, it's not a diet issue...it's a thinking issue. At some level everyone struggling with weight knows this. It's just that no one knows what to do about it. Instead of addressing the real cause of our weight problems, our minds, we pretend it's because we don't know what to eat. We comb the bookstores searching for the next wonder diet that is going to solve our problem for us. We snatch up everything we can find that makes hollow promises of "fast, fast weight loss" all in the hopes that this problem will go away without us having to do the inevitable. The "diet" aspect of weight loss has been beat to death. It's been so overdone that every conceivable way of eating has been thought of and written about. There's a diet to suit every whim and every taste yet after thousands of books and theories, we're still as fat as ever. The reason is because while we've distracted ourselves with carb, protein, and fat ratios, obsessed over whether eating bacon is a good idea for losing weight and struggled with the decision of what ab-machine to buy, we've neglected the true cause of all weight problems. The cause of all weight problems can be found by looking inside. Being trapped in a chronic weight struggle is a result of our thinking, our self-image, our beliefs, and our attitudes. Weight issues come from the inside-out, not outside-in. So what's the answer? There's only one. The answer is looking inward. The answer comes from soul-searching and from facing the reasons why we allow ourselves to remain fat and unhappy. The answer lies in answering the question, "Why can't I stick with a diet?" instead of repeatedly asking, "What kind of diet should I try?" Until the internal reasons why we keep ourselves trapped in a weight struggle are discovered, all attempts to lose weight are likely to end up in failure. Discover the internal reasons for remaining fat however, and the diet will come easy.
