Wisdom tooth are also known as third molars are the last teeth to erupt. This occurs generally between the ages of seventeen and twenty five. There remains a great deal of disagreement regarding whether or not this tooth need to be removed. It is usually suggested that the tooth that remain completely buried or un-erupted in a normal position are unlikely to cause harm. Nevertheless, if these impacted teeth are in an abnormal position their potential for harm should be assessed. A tooth becomes impacted cause of lack of space in the dental arch and its eruption is therefore prevented by gum, bone, another tooth or all three. Some good reasons of removing a wisdom tooth Wisdom teeth can be hard to access with the toothbrush or floss. Over time, the accretion of bacteria, sugars and acids may cause a cavity to form in the tooth. If it is not restored with a filling, the cavity may extend and destroy more tooth structure causing severe consequences to the tooth and surrounding supportive structures. Due to the obscurity of keeping these teeth clean with your daily home care, bacteria and food debris remaining on the wisdom teeth may present a foul smell-causing bad breath. A wisdom tooth that is at rest under the gums in a horizontal position may exert pressure to the surrounding teeth, causing crowding and crooked teeth. This also may happen if there is not enough space in the mouth for the wisdom tooth. This can warrant braces to repair the damage. A wisdom tooth that is at a standstill under the gums may become irritated. The gum tissue, that deceit over the tooth may harbor food debris and bacteria that gets trapped under the gum, resulting in an infection in the gums. Some bad effects of removing the wisdom teeth Depending on the size shape and location of the tooth, removal can vary from a simple extraction to a more complex extraction. With a simple extraction, there is generally little swelling, bruising and or bleeding. More difficult extraction will require special treatment which may result in more bruising, swelling and bleeding. Nevertheless, the dental professional will provide you with post treatment instructions to minimize these side effects. The longer you stay and the older you get, there is the potential for more problems to occur. This is for the reason that as you get older, the bone surrounding the tooth becomes denser, making the tooth more difficult to remove. The healing process might also be slower.
